Jean GIRAUD / Moebius / Gir

May 8, 1938 – March 10, 2012

In the book ‘Yoshitaka Amano: The Illustrated Biography-Beyond the Fantasy‘, Hironobu Sakaguchi states that he hesitated between Amano and Moebius to design the characters and illustrations for Final Fantasy. The thousands of kilometers separating him from the French artist led him to choose Amano.

.Note: Delphine Software already wanted to work with Moebius at the time of Flashback, but nothing was done to make it happen. A 3DCG Illustration was created at the request of the producer, but the development team didn’t like it. Delphine Software then asked Moebius to do the box art of Fade to Black after seeing that he had done Panzer Dragoon. Thierry Perreau came to see Moebius and offered him the job, as well as the Japanese version of Panzer Dragoon, which Moebius didn’t have.
The original painting arrived at Delphine Software, but it has disappeared, along with a lot of other illustrations and source code.
