About
VGDensetsu is a site featuring articles, interviews, sales figures and other information relating to video games and their history. It also includes a database whose purpose is to give precise, exaustive and sourced credit to illustrators, graphic designers, developers and logo or package designers whose names are often omitted from the games and products they have worked on.
Initially inspired by sites such as VGMDB and GDRI, my work later drew on other influences outside the video game field, particularly in the field of animation where identifying the author of an animation sequence is a task that some people have been doing for years. In video game terms, this means, for example, determining which sprite, background or animation a graphic designer may have created for a given game.
Games I have worked on
SNK 40th anniversary Collection (Switch, Windows, PS4 – 2018)
_My job was to gather as much information as possible on all SNK games released before 1992, excluding Neo-Geo. To do this, I began by compiling a list of all the games published and/or developed by SNK, whether released or not, with their release date/month if possible, in order to draw up as accurate a chronology as possible. This led me to collect a large number of advertisements and promotional flyers.
Having quickly come to the conclusion that there was very little information online on all these games, I tried another approach by compiling a list of the developers who had worked on them, who were at best credited under a pseudonym. In this way, I was able to find contacts for Toshikazu Tanaka, Keiko Ijuu / Tanaka and Hiroko Yokoyama, who provided design documents for Crystalis / God Slayer.
I also tried to identify and locate written documents that might contain information, such as VGL or manuals produced by SNK in the mid-80s containing comments and drawings by some of its developers.
As usual, I also tried to identify the illustrators of all the artworks created during this period.
